ETS Introduces New Major Field Test for Associate Degree Business ...

PRINCETON, NJ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/05/07 -- ETS is pilot testing its new Major Field Test for Associate Degree Business Programs at 20 community colleges nationwide. This is the first of ETS's Major Field Tests (MFTs) specifically designed for use by two-year and community colleges.

The MFT for Associate Degree Business Programs, developed in partnership with the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), assesses knowledge and skills in the core curriculum of a two-year business program in the following areas: accounting, economics, management, finance and marketing.

"We developed this assessment in partnership with ACBSP and with heavy involvement from community college business department chairs and faculty so that ETS could produce the most useful measure of the knowledge and skills their students have acquired in the program area," says Linda Tyler, Executive Director of Postsecondary Solutions for ETS.

Will university drop degree? Despite growth, TU program may ...

Prospective students don't seem deterred by the controversy surrounding the joint masters in business administration program at Towson University and the University of Baltimore.

Last fall, the first semester the program was offered, 158 new students enrolled -- up from 90 who enrolled in University of Baltimore's program the previous fall. More than 80 prospective students attended a recent open house, said Ron Desi, the program's director.

Despite its growth, however, the program's days could be numbered.

Morgan State University, in Baltimore, has asserted that the joint MBA violates a Supreme Court ruling that discourages duplication of programs offered by historically black colleges. (Morgan's program was introduced in 1965. William Vroman, its director, said 90 students are enrolled this year.)

Under current law, public universities in Maryland may not sue one another -- but a bill before the General Assembly could change that, and let Morgan file suit against Towson in an attempt to shut down the joint program.

It's the right time to look for a new job

According to recent reports, workers stand to benefit from a tighter labor market in the form of new opportunities and better compensation.

In 2006, the U.S. economy grew by 3.3 percent, a two-year high, and added 2 million jobs.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke reaffirmed the Fed's forecast of moderate economic growth in 2007 and an ease in inflation in upcoming quarters.

Healthcare and professional and business services continue to add jobs at a healthy clip and competition for skilled workers across all industries is increasing as employers struggle to fill newly created positions and vacancies from turnover.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics currently measures the unemployment rate at 4.5 percent for the general workforce, 3.6 percent for people over 25 years old and 1.9 percent for those with a college degree.

Mastering Internet Marketing in 2007.

Over the past few years, hoteliers have been hard at work trying to grow their online marketing revenues. Using techniques like website design, search engine optimization, paid search marketing and email blasts, many have been very successful.

However, with all of the new Internet marketing channels now available (ie. Consumer Generated Media, Meta Search) many hoteliers find themselves at a loss, with no clear structure on the best strategy to produce the highest returns. They know they can do more but not sure as to what. They are willing to invest more but not certain as to where. They want to stay current with their peers but do not know what that means. This year, one-third of bookings in hospitality in the U.S. will be generated from the Internet and another third will be directly influenced by online research, but booked offline.
