| A new era begins for AIB College of Business
A bachelor's degree completion program, intercollegiate sports, online courses and scholarships promoting diversity probably aren't the first things most people associate with AIB College of Business. All of these elements, however, have progressed from the planning phases to reality in the past two years at AIB as the 85-year-old private, non-profit college strives to remain competitive in a rapidly changing collegiate market. One of the biggest elements of its strategy has been to seek accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association to offer bachelor's degree programs, which it received in February 2006. About 135 students enrolled in AIB's new bachelor's completion programs in business administration and accounting last fall, the first semester it was offered.

Embarq opens tech center in Gardner
Embarq Corp. today unveiled a new technology center in Gardner designed to develop and test new equipment and technology. The 13,500-square-foot center replaces a series of smaller labs on Sprint Nextel Corp.'s campus in Overland Park that totaled 8,000 square feet. Sprint Nextel spun off Embarq, its former local division, in May. In a news release, Embarq said new equipment and technologies will be tested at the lab before being deployed in the company's network in 18 states across. Embarq said the lab is dedicated to Bob Pohlabel and Pete Gaughan, two former lab employees, who both died of cancer after more than 50 years of combined service with the company. "New technology holds the promise of better customer services and new products," Jim Hansen, senior vice president of network services, said in a statement.
Choosing the right e-mail sign-off can be tricky
Your boss sends a mass e-mail to the team. She doles out the usual updates and assignments, and signs her e-mail, "Truly yours." You choke on your latte. Truly whose? Shouldn't that be reserved for her child, husband or personal shopper? Yes, according to etiquette. But in our casual society, computer screens have replaced embossed letterhead, and no one appears to be over-thinking the way they end e-mails. .

Keys to Creating a Small Business Website
I dont want to categorize small business websites as those who make the most common mistakes, but by far the majority of small business sites can benefit from some basic consulting on how to get the most out of their online business. Here are a few questions all business owners with a Web presence should ask themselves in order to help set their site on its way into the World Wide Web. Does your site have enough content? One of the most common mistakes a small business website can make is to provide insufficient content. Not only do visitors need to understand what your business is about, so do the search engines. Search engines depend on your content to determine whether or not you are an authority on the subject that is represented within your site. Say it loud and say it proud, include as many details as possible about that subject to gain a keyword-rich copy that the search engines will gobble up and serve up in their rankings.
