The Music Farm, outside of Orrville in Baughman Township, will be the first retail outlet for a three-year-old online music retailer, www.themusicfarm.com, owned by Brian Robinson of Doylestown. Robinson, who worked in the local music store industry for 12 years before starting his online retail business in 2004, knows he's going against the grain. Some independent music retailers across the nation are struggling as they battle Internet retailers and sales of musical instruments from big-box discount retailers such as Wal-Mart and large chain competition from businesses such as the Guitar Center. Last month, Lentine's Music on North Main Street in Akron closed after 30 years in business, citing those struggles. But Robinson said he's different because instead of being a bricks-and-mortar music retailer going to the Internet, he's an Internet-based retailer -- with the Internet's competitive pricing -- opening a local retail shop.
