PayPal Entices Small Business
PayPal has launched a product aimed at helping small and medium businesses accept online payments securely and cost-effectively. The Website Payments Pro product is the first non-hosted payment suite from PayPal, a subsidiary of online auction giant eBay. It includes Express Checkout, Direct Payment API and Virtual Terminal functions, so firms can let shoppers choose how to pay for their purchases. The Direct Payment API lets businesses accept credit or debit card payments. Buyers enter card details directly on the business's own website and payments are processed through PayPal. Customers can also pay for their goods using PayPal's Express Checkout, removing the need to re-enter billing or delivery information with every purchase. Buyers can use any major credit or debit card, Banka account or PayPal account balance.

The Boca Raton clinic is now shut down, its principals charged with selling the drugs illegally. But the business of selling hormones claiming they build hard muscle, burn flab and reverse the effects of aging has been a lucrative -- and controversial -- staple for years in South Florida.
Dozens of clinics make millions selling hormones, venturing into gray areas of medicine and the law, prosecutors and physicians say. Among the sellers are a former cocaine dealer and a former merchant of illegal steroids.
"It's a huge business because people want the fountain of youth," said Dr. Paul Jellinger of Hollywood, an adviser to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
Business Banking: Small Banks Beefing Up Commercial Capabilities
The business outlook for community banks seems to get murkier by the day. Deposits are declining, spreads on loans are thinning, and the mortgage boom is kaput. These pressures are pushing small banks to develop new ways of attracting customers and capital, from adding employee training to deep-dive CRM investments. Another path is through territory long ceded to the big boys: commercial banking. According to an Aite Group fall survey, 80 percent of the 207 community banks canvassed expect to build up the business banking side of the institution in the next two years. That will require an extensive IT revamp to include higher capabilities in cash management, branch image technology and remote deposit capture services. In its survey, conducted with the ICBA last November, Aite found that while 66 percent offer cash management, fewer than 10 percent of community banks provided e-invoice services or payroll technology.
